M.Phil (Education)

ABOUT THE COURSE

The Master of Philosophy in Education (M. Phil. In Education) programme is crucial for a prospective researcher at the pre-doctoral level. The programme has been designed to build the research capacity of scholars by providing a strong orientation in different areas of education. The M. Phil. programme of two semesters includes two courses – Core course and Area of Specialization. Dissertation, however, is compulsory for every student. The course will also include advance seminar in which student will present a paper on any educational theme in research colloquium and clear a viva voce examination.

The intake capacity for M.Phil. Programme in Education shall be as per the eligibility norms of the UGC or as approved by the Competent Authority from time to time

The Degree shall be awarded to the successful candidates by the University of Jammu. However, the Marks Certificates, Provisional Certificates and Migration Certificates shall be issued by the College.

ELIGIBILITY

Admission

The minimum requirement for admission to the M.Phil. Programme shall be 55% of marks or an equivalent grade at Master’s Degree (M.A. Education/M.Ed.) Examination.

Note: A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/Differently abled, or for those who had obtained their Master’s degree prior to 19th September, 1991. The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 55% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures.

Examination

In order to be eligible to appear in the examination the minimum attendance required shall not be less than 80% of the lectures delivered in each course of study. Every student must also have participated in at least three seminars/group discussion sessions.

SYLLABUS

A student admitted to the M. Phil. (Education) Programme shall be required to take up four courses of study in the first semester and thesis in the second semester. Each course of study shall carry 100 marks. The thesis shall be evaluated out of 300 marks. The maximum marks for viva-voce shall, however, be 100

FEE

The candidates admitted to the M.Phil. in Education programme are required to deposit fee and other charges as prescribed by the college, the details of which can be had from the admissions office. Difference in amount if any will have to be paid as and when demanded by the college authorities. The fee for M.Phil. in Education programme is Rs. 40,000.00 per annum. Fee and other charges are subject to revision every year.
