Guest Lecture on ‘Idealism’

The Alumni Committee of MIER College of Education organized an inspiring guest lecture on "Idealism" for the students of B.Ed. and B.Ed. Special Education Semester I. Held in the H.L. Gupta Auditorium, the event saw enthusiastic participation from both students and faculty members.
The lecture, aligning with the curriculum of Philosophical and Sociological Perspectives in Education and Contemporary India and Education, was delivered by Dr. Ashu Jolly, Assistant Professor and Head of Education at Govt. Degree College, Marh. An esteemed alumna of the B.Ed. class of 1999 at MIER College, Dr. Jolly brought her extensive expertise to the session, making it a memorable experience.
The event commenced with a warm welcome and introduction of the speaker by Ms. Arpana Koul. Dr. Jolly’s lecture provided deep insights into the core principles of Idealism, its historical evolution, and its relevance in contemporary educational philosophies. Her engaging delivery encouraged students to approach philosophical perspectives with renewed interest.
An interactive session followed, where students asked thought-provoking questions, sparking a dynamic exchange of ideas. Prof. Adit Gupta, Director and Principal of MIER College of Education, extended heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Jolly, presenting her with a certificate of appreciation for her invaluable contribution.

Panel Discussion

The Alumni Committee of MIER College of Education organized a panel discussion on the theme "Curriculum Review," focusing on the Internship and Project Components of the B.Ed. course. The panel discussion underscored MIER College's commitment to revamp the current curriculum to prepare its student-teachers with the skills and knowledge needed for dynamic and impactful careers.
The event began with a formal welcome by Ms. Arpana Koul, Incharge of the Alumni Committee, who introduced the distinguished panelists. The panel included Dr. Monika Bajaj, Head of School of Social Sciences and Humanities, Dr. Bharti Tandon, Deputy Head, School of Education, Mrs. Suman Gupta, Assistant Professor at MIER College, Mrs. Pooja Pathania, Principal at Cambridge International School, and Mrs. Vasundra Sharma, Assistant Professor at Chenab College of Education.
During the discussion, the panelists shared their valuable insights on the relevance and effectiveness of the internship and project components within the B.Ed. syllabus. They emphasized the importance of hands-on experience in preparing future educators for real-world teaching. The current B.Ed. curriculum offers a balanced blend of theory and practice, with an increased focus on practical learning in later semesters, especially through components like Pre-Internship, School Internship, Project Work, and Community Engagement. The session concluded with a Q&A session where students eagerly posed questions to the panel, gaining practical perspectives on enhancing their professional journey as future educators.
Dr. Adit Gupta, Director and Principal of MIER College, provided closing remarks, emphasizing the importance of evolving teaching practices, a balance between theory and practice, and the integration of technology and AI in lesson planning. He also advocated for the potential benefits of psychological testing in real classroom situations.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks to the panelists, faculty, students, and the technical team for their support in making the event a success.

Sharing of Experiences

The Alumni Committee, MIER College of Education, hosted a sharing of experiences event in which Ms. Kirtie Manhas, Assistant Professor at Chenab College of Education, a proud alumna of MIER College, shared her valuable experiences with the current students.
The program commenced with a formal welcome and introduction of the speaker by Ms. Arpana Koul, Incharge of the Alumni Committee. In her address, Ms. Koul highlighted the achievements of Ms. Manhas, emphasizing her journey from a student at MIER College of Education to an outstanding educator in the field of education.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Manhas shared her academic and professional journey. She said that MIER College completely transformed her personality and taught her to be an engaging speaker and a teacher. She guided the students to excel in their academic and professional pursuits. Her captivating talk was followed by an interactive Q&A session, where students eagerly asked questions, seeking advice on various aspects of teaching and career development.
Dr. Adit Gupta commended the efforts of the Alumni Committee and emphasized the importance of organizing more such programs. He noted that inviting alumni to share their experiences greatly benefits the students, offering them valuable insights and inspiration. He said that MIER College of Education continues to foster strong connections with its alumni by involving them in different aspects of the curriculum and professional development.
The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms. Payal, a B.Ed Special Education Semester II student and the program was ably conducted by Ms. Ashia Choudhary, a B.Ed. Sem. II student.

Alumni Support to Curriculum Delivery

The Alumni Committee of MIER College of Education organized a lecture on "Assessment Tools at Pre-School and School Level: MDPS and GLAD" as part of its ongoing efforts to foster collaboration between the college and its accomplished alumni. The aim of the initiative was to provide valuable insights to students enrolled in the B.Ed. Spl. Education (ID) Semester I, course titled 'Assessment and Identification of Needs' (Course Code 106). Mr. Ashish Anand, a distinguished alumnus from the 2012-2013 batch and a Special Educator at APS Jammu Cantt, delivered the lecture, sharing his expertise and experience in the field of special education.
Mr. Ashish Anand initiated the session by introducing himself and expressing gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to the academic development of the students. He emphasized the significance of assessment tools in the educational context, with a particular focus on the MDPS (Modified Developmental Profile Scale) and GLAD (Guided Language Acquisition Design) frameworks. Mr. Ashish Anand elaborated on the fundamental principles and methodologies underlying MDPS and GLAD, providing insightful examples, case studies, and practical insights derived from his professional experience in the field.
Throughout the lecture, Mr. Ashish Anand actively encouraged audience engagement and participation, creating an interactive learning environment. Students enthusiastically posed questions, seeking clarification on various aspects of the assessment tools and their implementation strategies. Mr. Ashish Anand adeptly addressed these queries, enriching the discourse and facilitating a deeper understanding of the subject matter.
The comprehensive coverage of the topic, combined with the practical insights shared by Mr. Ashish Anand, received high praise from attendees. Students expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn from his expertise, indicating that the session significantly enhanced their understanding of assessment practices in special education

Alumni support to Curriculum Delivery

The Alumni Committee of the College organized an enlightening Guest Lecture by Dr. Madhu Choudhary, Assistant Professor, Lal Bahadur Shastri College of Education, Rajbagh, Kathua and an Alumni of MIER College of Education Batch 2015-17 . The lecture was based on the curriculum of B.Ed. Semester 1 and focused on the topic of Programmes and Schemes: IEDSS 2009, The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016. Dr. Madhu Choudhary commenced the lecture by providing an overview of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IEDSS) 2009 and its significance in addressing the educational needs of individuals with disabilities. She elucidated the key provisions of the act, emphasizing its role in ensuring inclusive education for all. Subsequently, Dr. Choudhary delved into a comprehensive discussion on The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016. She elucidated the pivotal aspects of the act, including its objectives, scope, and provisions aimed at safeguarding the rights and enhancing the welfare of persons with disabilities. The lecture further explored the implementation strategies and challenges associated with effectively executing the programmes and the schemes under the act.
The lecture delivered by Dr. Madhu Choudhary increased awareness and understanding of disability-related programmes and schemes among the participants. The event concluded on a note of inspiration, motivating attendees to actively contribute to the advancement of inclusive education.

Dr. Aksa Chaman Rao, Associate Professor, Head Dept. of English, Govt. Degree College Akhnoor and Ms Abha Choudhary, Certified Life, Emotional, Intelligence, and
Executive Coach were the guest alumni for the session.

Dr. Aksa Chaman Rao reflected on her alma mater, MIER College. She was filled with gratitude for the invaluable experiences it provided. The Alumni Committee of MIER College of Education organized a Sharing of Experiences session in the Induction Programme for the new batch of students of BA Honors, Semester I of the School of Social Sciences and Humanities on 5 th October. Ms. Abha Choudhary, Certified Life, Emotional, Intelligence, and Executive Coach, and Ritima Manhas, TGT Science, and Level Coordinator APS Rakhmuthi were the guest alumni for the session.
Both the Alumni shared their experiences that as a student of MIER College, it was a golden period of learning and enjoyment. Small regular appreciation from faculties motivated them to make learning their passion. Dedication and perseverance for skill development by teachers at MIER still motivates them to constantly work towards their goal. The college provided a lot of opportunities to them that helped in developing their confidence and personality. They learned
many skills from the college which helped in their professional growth and development. They also shared some memorable moments of college days like participation in activities, about teachers, college friends, and other activities.

The Alumni Committee organized an Alumni Interaction for students of B.Ed. and B.Ed. Special, Semester II of School of Education on 19th September, 2023 from 12.30 pm to 1.30 pm. Mr. Mukesh Sharma, Director and Principal, Bright Life School in Jodhpur, Rajasthan and Ms. Megavika, a Special Educator and the Founder of Blessings Intervention Center were the guest alumni on the interaction session.Mr. Mukesh Sharma, an alumnus of MIER College, shared his journey of competitive spirit and determination, highlighting his achievements, including several first prizes in intercollege competitions and being recognized as the best NSS Volunteer for the 2014-15 academic year. He discussed his involvement in co-curricular activities, NSS camps, the Clean India mission, and career opportunities after B.Ed. Ms. Meghavika, a special educator, spoke about her journey in Special Education, emphasizing inclusion and the importance of adapting teaching methods to meet diverse needs. She shared memorable experiences from her college days, including participation in activities and her bond with teachers and peers. Ms. Meghavika shared her thoughts and experiences as a special educator. She also shared memorable moments of her college days like participation in activities, about her teachers, college friends and other activities.

Alumni Meet

The Alumni Meet of MIER College of Education was organised at Hotel Ramada KC City Centre, Jammu, to celebrate four decades of excellence in the field of teacher education. The event was attended by over 150 Alumni. The theme of the Alumni Meet was “RECONNECT, REVIVE and REJOICE”. The alumni had travelled from far and wide to attend the alumni meet. The event commenced with paying of tributes to Dr. Arun K. Gupta, former Chairperson of MIER Group of Institution, an eminent educationist. Prof Adit Gupta, Director and Principal MIER College of Education welcomed the distinguished guests and alumni and said that alumni are our ambassadors and collectively can take the institution to greater heights. On the occasion twelve prominent alumni were presented with the ‘Distinguished Alumni Awards’ . The awardees also released the College Newsletter-Prerna and launched the Alumni Association of the college. The event had power packed musical performances from Mr. Ricky & his band. There were enthralling spot performances by alumni which filled the environment with excitement and cheer. The alumni meet gave an opportunity for all the old students to get together and relive the old times and share their memories. Later the students danced to the peppy numbers of the DJ and the afternoon ended with a lunch for all alumni. Gifts were also given to alumni. The programme was compered by Mrs. Manju Vali, Incharge of the Co-curricular Committee, Model Academy.

Alumni Interaction Session organised at MIER College
An Alumni Interaction session was organised for the students of B.Ed. Special Education by the Alumni and Placement Committee of MIER College of Education. Mr. Rajpawan Jangra, Principal Aatmsukh Aatmdev Aashram Special School Hoshiarpur, Punjab, an alumnus of 2006-07 batch, was the guest alumnus on the occasion. Prof. Adit Gupta, Principal MIER College of Education HoD PG Department, Dr. Rohnika Sharma, HoD UG Department, Mr. Pranav Gandotra along with the faculty of both B.Ed. Special Education and the students attended the session.
Ms. Ridhi Suri, Student of B.Ed Spl. Education Sem. III Department extended a warm welcome to the guest speaker and introduced him as an expert in the field of Special education. During the interaction Mr. Rajpawan shared his experiences as a Special Educator with the students and faculty members. He also shared his memorable moments of his college days like participation in activities, about his teachers, college friends etc. During the Question-Answer sessions Mr. Rajpawan cleared the doubts and queries of the students.
Dr. Adit Gupta in his presidential remarks thanked the guest speaker for sparing his valuable time and sharing his experiences as a Special Educator with the students.
Mr. Pranav Gandotra, Convener Alumni and Placement Committee presented a formal Vote of Thanks to the distinguished speaker and the audience.
