National Integration Camp , Fatehabad

The National Integration Camp was held at Manohar Memorial PG College, Fatahabad, Haryana from 12th March,2024 – 18th March, 2024.Nirbhay Khajuria, an NSS volunteer from MIER College of Education, B.A (Honors)Psychology Semester V got selected and
participated from Regional Directorate of NSS Jammu. The camp was jam-packed with information, opportunities for interaction, and fun because its main goal was to teach young Indians how to be more independent in their day-to-day lives. The 12 participating states
were encouraged to learn about India's rich diversity and culture. In addition, the Vice Chancellor gave a speech to the students as part of the Cultural Exchange Program between the NIC Campers and Choudhary Devi Lal University in Sirsa, Haryana, emphasizing the
value of youth voting.The Regional Director of NSS Delhi Sh. Shrawan Ram also participated and shared everyone his valuable thoughts with campers. The camp entirely focused on learning something new every day. This was a fantastic NSS endeavor to bring India together. The NSS endeavor to unite India was commendable, since it allowed the volunteers to engage with people from all regions—North, South, East, and West—and get insight into their cultures. Participation in the National Integration Camp, Sirsa.

From March 1st to 7th, 2024, Sudhanshu Pandoh, an NSS volunteer from MIER College of Education, B.Ed. Spl. Education Semester I, took part in the National Integration Camp at Vishwa Bharti PG College in Sikar, Rajasthan.The objective of the camp was to present the
cultures of ten distinct Regional Directories (RDs). They gave NSS volunteers from several states the chance to oversee a variety of tasks every day, including serving food, exhibiting their customs, selecting meals from their cuisine, and organizing skits, folk dances, music, and poetry about their local languages. In addition to giving participants the chance to perform community service, the camp assisted in the development of their social and personal abilities. There were academic sessions, yoga classes, and Prabhat Pheri every day. These were followed by games, skits, dances, and quizzes,Skits, dances, extempore, etc. On the whole this NSS camp was a valuable program that provided students with an opportunity to develop their skills and contribute to the development of their community.

Seven-Day NSS Special Camp

Seven-Day NSS Special Camp

The NSS Unit of the College organized a seven-day special NSS
camp from February 16–24, 2024, focusing on the theme of "Rural
Reconstruction and Ecological Development". Around fifty volunteers from various departments of college actively participated in the event aimed at fostering community engagement and environmental awareness. The camp kicked off with an orientation session highlighting NSS objectives and camp significance. Each day commenced with invigorating morning prayers followed by rejuvenating yoga sessions, promoting mindfulness and physical wellness. The volunteers enthusiastically contributed to daily shram daan activities, displaying their commitment to noble causes.
A wide array of activities unfolded during the camp, including awareness programs on disability, community sensitization sessions, and environmental cleanliness drives in adopted villages Purkhoo and Domana. Emphasis was placed on waste segregation, rainwater harvesting, and the adoption of eco-friendly technologies like solar lights and 5-star ACs. A captivating skit highlighting the importance of waste segregation, added a creative touch to the camp's educational endeavours. The valedictory function, graced by Prof. Adit Gupta, Director and Principal of MIER College of Education, featured a vibrant cultural program encompassing Sarasvati Vandana, NSS songs, skits, and group folk dances. Dr. Komal Sharma,NSS Programme Officer, presented a comprehensive report on camp activities. Certificates were awarded to outstanding participants of the poster-making competition, with Ms. Shivangi Raj Metla, Ms. Azra Khatoon, Ms. Ridham Sharma, and Ms. Kanureet receiving accolades for their creativity.

Empowers Students through Workshop on POCSO Act

In a collaborative initiative between the Shrimati Shanti Gupta Centre for Women’s Studies and the NSS Unit at MIER College of Education, a workshop was conducted on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for the NSS volunteers and members of the
Gender Champions Club. The objective of the workshop was to
disseminate crucial information about the POCSO Act, initiate discussions on prevention strategies, and empower students to play an active role in protecting children from potential harm. Ms. Anjali Jain, member of Gender Champion Club, extended a warm welcome to the audience and Ms. Naman Mansotra, another Gender Champion, introduced the resource person, Ms. Saniya Mahajan, who is serving as an Assistant Manager at The Rakshin Project (Sakshi, an NGO) with an MOU with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
 Ms. Mahajan commenced the workshop with an ice-breaking activity, creating a comfortable and open environment for participants. She
highlighted the significance of the POCSO Act, enacted in 2012, as a legal framework aimed at protecting children from sexual abuse and exploitation in India. The session covered the definition of child sexual abuse, its various forms, prevalence, signs, and indicators. Practical aspects were addressed through relevant videos and activities.
 The workshop delved into the provisions of the POCSO Act, legal
implications for offenders, reporting mechanisms, and responsibilities. Ms. Mahajan provided information on helplines, including the toll-free number 1098, and support organizations. An interactive session allowed students to clarify doubts and misconceptions. The workshop successfully achieved its objective of creating awareness and fostering a sense of responsibility among students regarding child sexual abuse prevention.

Essay Writing Competition on National Youth Day

The NSS unit of the College organised a compelling essay writing competition on January 12, 2024, commemorating National Youth Day. The event focused on the topic 'Relevance of Swami Vivekananda's Philosophy in Present Times.' Professor Adit Gupta, Director and Principal, Prof. Nishta Rana, Head of School of Education, and Dr. Monika Bajaj, Head of School of Social Sciences and Humanities, along with faculty members, graced the occasion. Ms. Hitakshi Bakshi, a student of B.Ed. Semester 1, welcomed the guests . Participants were given the platform to articulate their perspectives on Swami Vivekananda's enduring philosophy. The essays fostered the continued relevance of Vivekananda's teachings in modern society, emphasizing self-realization, tolerance, and social service. The judging panel, comprised Dr. Reeta Dwivedi, Dr. Bindu Dua, and Mrs. Suman Devi, Assistant Professors of MIER College of Education. Winners were announced, with Hitakshi Bakshi of B.Ed. Semester 1 and Arzoo Sharma, B.A. (Hons.) English Semester 3 securing the first position. Almita Katoch of B.Ed. Sem 1 secured the second rank, and Avinab Badyal of B.Ed. Sem 1 clinched the third position.

Blood Donation Camp

Blood Donation Camp

The NSS Unit of the College in collaboration with J&K Thalassemia Welfare Society organized a Blood Donation Camp on December 4, 2023, .The camp was supervised by Dr Neeti Dutt and her team of doctors and medical assistants who arrived at the campus in a specially retrofitted bus specially designed for carrying out blood donation camps. The Camp was inaugurated by Professor Adit Gupta, Director, and principal of MIER College of Education.
More than fifty volunteers came forward to donate blood during the camp which included the volunteers of the School of Education and School of Social Sciences and Humanities. The teaching and non-teaching staff of the college also participated in the camp. The donors were given refreshments after donating their blood. They were also provided with a blood donation certificate card by GMC.
The event was successfully organized by Mrs. Komal Sharma, the NSS Programme Officer and Ms. Sonika Kumari, a Member of the NSS unit.

National Integration Week

National Integration Week

The NSS Unit of the College observed National Integration Week from November 19 to 25, 2023. The main events organized during the week were an inter-college poetry recitation competition, an interdepartmental patriotic dance competition, and an interdepartmental competition on cultural attire. Over twelve NSS volunteers from different institutions in Jammu participated in the Patriotic Poetry Recitation Competition. Dr. Aksa Rao, Associate Professor and Head, Department of English, Government Degree College Akhnoor, Dr. Anupama Sharma, Associate Professor,
Department of Hindi, Government College for Women Parade Ground, and Mr. J. R. Sagar, Director, and approved artist for Doordarshan and Radio, were the jury members of the event.
Based on the results given by the jury members, Mr. Nirbhay Khajuria of MIER College won the first prize, Ms. Charanpreet Kour of GCW Parade Ground won the second prize, and Ms. Ayushi Kesar of Shivalik College of Education, Udhampur, won the third prize. The second event was the Inter-Departmental Patriotic Dance Competition, and the judges were Mr. Tarun Sayal, MD, Strenuous Dance Academy and Aerobic Centre, and Ms. Mohini Thapa, Dance Teacher, Model Academy School. The winners of B.A. Honors Psychology Semester I and B.A. Honors English Semester III were first, third and second, respectively.The last event was an Inter-departmental Cultural Dress Competition wherein 11 students participated, and the jury members for the said competition were Professor Rohnika Sharma, HoD School of Education, and Mrs. Manju Vali, Manager Academics and Convener Co-Curricular Committee, Model Academy School. In this event, Mr. Nirbhay Khajuria of B.A.Honors Psychology Semester V and Ms. Aatifa Nisar of B.A. Hons. Psychology Semester I stood first, Ms. Kanureet of B.A. Hons. Psychology Semester V won the second prize, Ms. Aditi of B.A. Hons. Psychology Semester V and Ms. Keerthi B.A Honors Psychology Semester I won the third prize. The judges of all the events were honoured with mementos and appreciation certificates. All the winners were awarded trophies and certificates for their achievements and participation. The fundraising event on Flag Day, wherein more than 200 flags were sold, marked the end of Integration Week celebrations.

National Unity Day

To celebrate National Unity Day, the NSS Unit of the College organized a pledge ceremony followed by a documentary screening on the theme “Life History and Philosophy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel” to celebrate his 147th birth anniversary. More than eighty students of B.A. Honour programmes attended the event with great enthusiasm and zeal. In addition to offering a ceremonial greeting, Mrs. Komal Sharma provided a succinct overview of National Unity Day. The pledge was recited in both English and Hindi by Ms. Tehzeeb Qureshi, a student of B.A. (Hons.) Political Science, Sem-III and Ms. Ananya, B.A. (Hons.) Psychology, Sem-III. This was followed by a documentary that showcased Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s life journey, ideology, and contributions to the nation’s freedom. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Ms. Aarzoo of B.A. (Hons.) English, Sem-III.

Poshan Maah

Poshan Maah

The NSS Unit of MIER College conducted Poshan Maah, a month-long health programme from September 1 to September 30, 2023. Poshan Abhiyaan is the initiative of India's Ministry of Women and Child Development that aims to improve community mobilization and involvement to fight infant and maternal malnutrition and to ensure everyone's health and nutrition. In keeping with the focus of the programme, the NSS volunteers conducted a door-to-door nutrition and health awareness campaign in their neighbourhood, educating
residents about the benefits of eating a healthy and balanced diet. Dr. Adit Gupta, Director and Principal, commended the NSS team for their
tenacious efforts throughout the month. He emphasized the importance of the young generation participating in community service and urged the students to take part in social work projects so as to become productive and contributing members of society. In addition to praising the commitment of NSS volunteers, Mrs Rupa Gupta, Joint Director, MIER, remarked that these programmes facilitate and encourage
effective societal awareness and further improve the nutritional outcomes for children, adolescent girls, and women.

"First Aid and Casualty Management"

The NSS Unit of the MIER College celebrated NSS Day by organizing a guest lecture and demonstration on the subject of "First Aid and Casualty Management". A group of Jammu-based Civil Defence Organization professionals served as the team and resource persons. They included Mr. R.D. Sahini, the team & manager, and Mr. Purshotam and Mr.Rajendar, instructors. An NSS volunteer, Ms. Shruti Bhasin welcomed the guests, and everyone present on the occasion. She gave a brief overview of the day significance and mentioned that September 24 has been recognized as NSS Day and observed across the nation since 1969. It commemorates the official launch of India & public service initiative. The resource persons emphasized first-aid casualty management and based on the Triage System, they claimed that casualties might need to be moved to a safer treatment area for safety concerns. The person can be identified by one of the red, yellow, green, or black tags by looking at each criterion, and first aid can be administered in accordance with that tag color. They also outlined the crucial rules that a first responder or first aid provider must follow, including assessing the situation swiftly and calmly, deciding whether the provider or the casualty is in danger, and making arrangements for help as soon as possible. The teachers also went through the steps and precautions for performing CPR and clearing breathing obstructions. After the training, a first aid and casualty management demonstration was given, showing how to make and improvise stretchers and stop bleeding.

NSS Camp

NSS Camp

NSS unit of the College organized seven days special NSS camp from February 15-23, 2023. The theme of the camp was "Environment, including the preservation of natural resources and conservation of cultural and historical heritage”.
Around fifty volunteers from the different departments of the College participated in the camp. A number of activities were held during the camp, such as a lecture on values and work ethics and an orientation on the “Ladli Beti Scheme” for the slum dwellers of Kabir Basti. They also visited Akhnoor Fort and ran an environmental awareness campaign. The volunteers visited an old age home in Amphala. Various sports and cultural activities were also undertaken.
Dr. Hema Gandotra, Programme Coordinator NSS, University of Jammu, was the Chief Guest for the valedictory function. The volunteers presented a vibrant cultural programme that included a NSS song, skit on the theme of "Women Empowerment”, video presentation on camp activities, and group folk dances such as Dogri, Ladakhi, and Punjabi.

National Youth Day

To commemorate the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, the NSS Unit of MIER College of Education celebrated the National Youth Day on 12th January 2023. The theme of National Youth Day 2023 was 'Viksit Yuva Viksit Bharat'. Students were enlightened about the philosophies, principles, ideology of Swami Vivekananda and the relevance of his teachings in the present day world. On this occasion the NSS volunteers took a pledge to dedicate their lives to humanity and service of the nation. This was followed by showcasing of a short documentary depicting the life of Swamiji. More than eighty students of B.Ed. and B.Ed. Special Education department participated in the event.Dr. Adit Gupta, Director and Principal MIER College, appreciated the efforts of the NSS Unit for organizing such events. In his motivational address he highlighted the role of Swami Vivekananda and said that he was instrumental in introducing the philosophies of ‘vedanta’ and ‘yoga’ to the western world. The philosophy of Swami ji and the ideals for which he lived and worked is a great source of inspiration for the Indian Youth. He reiterated the fact that Swamiji revived the Indian cultural consciousness, awakened self-esteem in the Indian youth and created a new ray of hope. He gave valuable insight into how the youth in today’s world can take inspiration and lead a fulfilling life by following Swamiji’s ideologies and thoughts. He advised the students to follow their dreams and strive to achieve excellence in their respective fields.

To celebrate Human Rights Day, the NSS Unit of MIER College of Education organized a panel discussion on the topic “Civic Literacy and Engagement.” The eminent panellists who presented their views were, Dr. Bindu Sangra, Assistant Professor, The Law School, University of Jammu, Dr. Monika Narang, Associate Professor, Dept. of Law, University of Jammu and Dr. Sumit
Nayyar, Advocate, J&K High Court. Dr. Adit Gupta, Principal and Director, Mrs. Rupa Gupta, Joint Director, Dr. Mool Raj Sharma HoD, PG dept., and Dr. Rohnika Sharma, HoD UG dept., along with the Deputy HODs of PG & UG depts., graced the occasion. The discussion was attended by all the faculty members and students of the college. Dr. Reeta Dwivedi, NSS Programme Officer introduced the panellists to the audience and highlighted the objective of the session. Dr. Adit Gupta in his address welcomed the panellists to deliberate on an important theme. He
said that students should learn more about their relationship with the community they engage with and should refine their decision-making abilities and acquire other career-related skills. The panellists discussed their perspectives on the topic and gave suggestions for the peaceful development of the society, with a focus on integrating quality civic education throughout the
curriculum. Such measures can improve students, academic performance and other results while also fostering the long-term civic health of our democratic society. This can also help students
gain more civic knowledge, abilities, and attitudes. Speaking upon the benefits of civic engagement they elaborated that people are more likely to have strong social bonds, good self- esteem, and a strong sense of civic duty in addition to better interpersonal relationships and higher self-esteem. Civic education empowers us to be well-informed, active citizens and gives us the opportunity to change the world around us. It is a vital part of any democracy, and equips people with the knowledge about our democracy and constitutional rights and duties. Ms. Jyoti Sharma, Assistant professor, MIER College of Education presented a formal vote of thanks. Ms. Anadita and Ms. Shivali Singh, NSS volunteers ably conducted the programme.

Seven Days NSS Special Camp

A seven-day annual camp of NSS volunteers of MIER College on the theme “Youth for socio-economic and cultural development” was held in its campus. The camp was organized under the guidance of Dr Reeta Dwivedi, NSS programme officer of the college. Fifty volunteers from the different departments of the college participated in the camp. The volunteers were made aware of the objectives and purpose behind organizing the NSS camp. The camp was formally inaugurated by Dr. Adit Gupta wherein he blessed the volunteers and said that the NSS Unit of MIER is one of the oldest units and has been vibrant and active. He emphasized on instilling a sense of community service and highlighted the importance of Shramdaan for youth of today. Dr.
Gupta appreciated the zeal and passion of the NSS volunteers for social and community service. Under the theme of the camp different activities were conducted like, orientation on Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojna, Atal pension Yojna to the slum dwellers of Kabir Basti and a visit to Akhnoor Fort. An environment awareness campaign about the use of polythene bags and upkeep of Chenab River in Akhnoor was also done by the NSS Volunteers. In addition, various sports and cultural activities were organised. Dr. Adit Gupta, Director, and Principal, MIER College of Education was the chief guest for the valedictory function. Mrs. Rupa Gupta, Joint-Director MIER along with HoDs of
different departments, deputy HoDs, IQAC team, faculty members, and students of both UG and PG departments attended the function. The volunteers presented a vibrant cultural programme which included NSS song, a skit on the theme “Women Empowerment”, a video presentation of camp activities by Jigmet Tundup and a group dance. The programme was conducted by Ms. Muskan Sharma and Ms. Pallavi Mahajan. A formal vote of thanks was presented by Ms. Ritika.

National Integration Week

NSS Unit of MIER College of Education observed National Integration Week from 19th to 25th November 2020. Dr. Adit Gupta, Principal and Director MIER, along with the HOD’s, staff members and students of all the departments were also present.
The celebrations included an online Inter-College Rangoli competition, a Slogan writing competition, and a (live) Patriotic song competition. 28 NSS volunteers of various colleges enthusiastically participated in all the events. Mrs. Maneka Khanna, Incharge Humming Birds & English Language Trainer, and Mrs. Sunita Gandhi, Senior Faculty Fine Arts Model Academy School evaluated the Inter-College Rangoli competition on the theme "Communal Harmony." Shruti Gupta of MIER College of Education took first position, followed by Deepi Jamwal of MIER College of Education in second place, and Soha Gupta of JK College of Education in third place. The theme of Slogan writing competition was ‘Unity in Diversity’ The judges were Mrs. Manju Vali, Senior Faculty Model Academy School and Mrs. Samta Dogra, Senior Faculty, Model Academy School, MIER. First prize was bagged by Deepali Gauttam, MIER College of Education, Kamna Sharma from J K College of Education clinched the second place and Surbhi Sharma, J K College of Education and Shweta Rakwal, K C College of Education were adjudged third. The consolation prize went to Vanshika Kohli of K C College of Education. Online (live) patriotic singing competition was also conducted. The judges of this competition were Shri Brij Mohan ji, Poet & Composer and Amar Chouhan, MD Infobug, J&K First Infotainment Channel. Manmeet Kour stood first, Swang Palmo won the second prize and the third prize was given to Aashima Gupta. All are the students of MIER College of Education. Neha Bargotra from MIER College of Education was given the consolation prize. Dr Adit Gupta interacted with the NSS volunteers. He lauded the role of NSS in bringing about harmony and goodwill among the diverse cultures of India. He stressed upon the importance of the national integration in our multi-cultural society. He also motivated the students to involve themselves in myriad activities of social service organized by the unit and become useful members of the society. The whole event was organized under the guidance of Dr. Reeta Dwivedi, NSS Programme Officer who also expressed her gratitude to the judges, participants and other distinguished guests. The NSS Volunteers, Shobhani Jain, Ritika, Deepali Guattam, Surbhi Sharma, Shruti Gupta, Neha Bargotra, Manmeet Kour from both the departments ably performed the various duties assigned to them.

'Poshan Maah'

NSS Unit, MIER College of Education concluded month long driven Poshan Maah from 1st September to 30th September' 2021. The POSHAN Abhiyaan is a flagship programme of India's Ministry of Women and Child Development. The program's goal is to increase community mobilisation and engagement in order to combat malnutrition in young children and women, as well as to assure everyone's health and nutrition.The activity's goal was to ensure the people's bodily and mental well-being throughout the lockdown. The NSS volunteers conducted a door-to-door nutrition and health awareness campaign in keeping with the program's theme. They went around to people in their community and informed them about the health benefits. The advantages of ‘Millet' were highlighted in particular.
Dr. Adit Gupta, MIER's Director and Principal, praised the NSS team's tireless efforts during the month. He emphasised the necessity of youth participating in community service He also encouraged the students to participate in the unit's numerous social service initiatives in order to become helpful members of society.
Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Rupa Gupta, Joint Director MIER, praised the volunteers' hard work as well. She noted that such programmes can enable and promote effective awareness in society as well as improve nutritional outcomes for children, teenage females, and women.Dr. Moolraj Sharma, HoD PG, Dr. Rohnika Sharma, HoD, and the faculty members also appreciated the volunteers' efforts throughout the month of 'Poshan Maah. The local people also valued the tireless efforts of NSS unit and volunteers.

NSS DAY Celebration

The NSS Unit of MIER College of Education celebrated NSS Day on 28th September2021. The event was conducted through Virtual Mode (Google Meet). Dr. Adit Gupta Director and Principal MIER College of Education, Mrs. Rupa Gupta, Joint Director MIER, Dr. Moolraj Sharma, HOD PG department, Dr. Rohnika Sharma, HOD UG department, Dy. HOD PG & UG, Dr. Nishta Rana & Dr. Monika Bajaj along with the faculty members and students of both the departments attended the program. Dr. Reeta Dwivedi NSS Programme Officer extended a warm welcome to the audience. She presented a brief overview on the significance of the day. She also emphasized the importance of youth in nation development, which is one of NSS's goals. She urged the youth to sit down together and critically consider the changes that need to be made in the growth of the society. A Jingle writing competition was organized on this occasion on the theme “Youth in 2021” in which Students of both the departments participated enthusiastically. As a whole, six students participated. Deepali Gouttam Student of B.Ed. stood first with 41 points. Neha Badgotra student of M.Ed. bagged the second prize with 39 points. The third position was taken by Aaditi student of M.Ed. with 37.5 points.
Dr. Adit Gupta praised the NSS Unit for putting on such a successful programme. He went into detail about the NSS, its goals, and the role of youth in accomplishing those goals.
Students were also inspired and blessed by Dr. Moolraj Sharma.
The programme was ably conducted by Ms. Muskan Sharma Student of B.Ed & NSS volunteer, Pallavi Mahajan, B.Ed & NSS volunteer, presented a formal Vote of Thanks.

One Day Human Rights Session

MIER College of Education organized a ‘One Day Human Rights Session in NSS Special Camp’(under the banner of office of the Program Coordinator NSS, University of Jammu in collaboration with NHRM (National Human Rights Commission) on 1st March 2021 in college premises. Dr Satinder Kumar, Programme Coordinator NSS, University of Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion. Dr. Renu Gupta, Chairperson MIER, Dr. Adit Gupta, Director and principal MIER College of Education, Mrs. Rupa Gupta, Joint Director MIER, HODs of UG & PD depts. Dr. Moolraj Sharma and Dr. Rohnika Sharma, along with the faculty members of the MIER college of Education and the various other colleges attended the program. Dr Adit Gupta, Director and principal MIER College of Education formally welcomed the gathering. He said that NSS has been always vibrant and active. He further added that the NSS volunteers are the ambassadors of change as they pass on the values of selfless service not only to school children, but to the community as well. Human Rights Pledge was also conducted by Anjeshree Sinha, NSS volunteer and student of B.Ed. Two sessions on human rights were conducted. The first resource person was Mr. Deshraj, Youth Assistant, Regional directorate, NSS. The second speaker was Dr. Bindu Sangra. Assistant Professor, School of Law. The camp was held with 50 NSS volunteers from various colleges. A Declamation Contest was also held on the theme ‘Awareness on the Human Rights’. There were eight participants, out of which the first and the second prizes were bagged by Anjeshree and Ashit Toppo students of B.Ed. MIER College of Education and the third prize was given to Dhara Koul from GCW Bhagwati Nagar. The cash prizes were given to the winners consisting of amounts Rs.3500, Rs.2400 & Rs.1400 respectively. Dr. Reeta Dwivedi, NSS Program Officer extended a formal vote of thanks . Palak Srivastva student of B.Ed ably compered the programme.

Seven-days NSS Special Camp

A seven-day annual camp of NSS volunteers of MIER College on the theme “Youth for Community Service” was held in its campus. Fifty volunteers from the different departments of the college participated in the camp. The volunteers were made aware about the objectives of NSS and the purpose behind organizing the camp. Dr. Adit Gupta, Principal exhorted the volunteers to develop a passion for community service and acquire necessary training to shape the future of the youth of the country. At the valedictory function, Ms. Mehreen Khan formally welcomed the audience. Volunteers presented an impressive programme which included a group dance on the theme “Women Empowerment” followed by a skit on ‘Drug Abuse.’ A detailed report of seven-day NSS camp was presented by NSS program officer, Mrs. Komal Sharma. The function culminated with a breathtaking performance of the volunteers on a dogri song. The programme was ably conducted by Ms. Esha Balgotra and Ms. Mahima Gupta presented a formal Vote of Thanks.

National Youth Day

National Youth Day

National Youth Day was celebrated on the theme "“Channelizing Youth Power for Nation Building” by the unit to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. Ms. Esha Balgotra, a NSS volunteer from M.Ed Semester IV extended a warm welcome to the audience and said that Swami Vivekananda was a key figure in the introduction of the Indian philosophies of Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world and highlighted the richness of Indian culture on the global platform. A documentary on the philosophy and life history of Swami Vivekananda was shown to the students with a purpose to propagate the philosophy and the ideals of Swami Vivekananda for which he lived and worked. Dr. Adit Gupta, Principal MIER College of Education appreciated the efforts of the NSS Unit for organizing such an inspirational event. Ms. Snober Chawla, a B.Ed student ably conducted the programme and Ms. Sonali Gupta, a B.Ed. student presented a formal Vote of thanks.

National Integration Week

National Integration Week

NSS Unit of MIER College of Education organized a series of programmes to celebrate National Integration Week from 19th to 25th November. During the weeklong celebrations, different activities such as fund-raising campaign, patriotic song competition (Solo), rangoli making competition were organized. NSS volunteers from PG and UG departments participated in all the events with great fervor and zeal.
First, second and third prizes were bagged by Naresh Kumar from M.Ed., Meenakshi from B.Ed. Special Education and Shakti from M.A. Education in the patriotic song competition. A total sum of Rs.4,390/- was collected during the fund-raising campaign.The inter-departmental rangoli competition was organized on the theme ‘Communal Harmony’ . First and second prize was bagged by Sunflower Team and Lily Team from M.Ed. third semester and Lotus Team from B.Ed. semester third was adjudged third.

Celebration of NSS Day

The NSS Unit of MIER College of Education celebrated NSS Day on 24th September2019. A quiz competition was organized on this occasion on the theme “Aims and Role of NSS” in which Students of B.Ed and B.Ed Special participated enthusiastically. Four teams namely team A, team B, team C and team D comprising of two participants each from different sections of B.Ed and B.Ed Special Education, participated. There were four rounds of questions based upon the theme. Team A comprising of Konika Choudhary and Jaya Pushpam B.Ed of SectionA. stood first with 22 points. Team B comprising Kavita and Noreen of B.Ed. bagged the second prize and Kishore & Rohit of Team C from B.Ed spl education stood third.

NSS Camp

A seven days camp of N.S.S volunteers of MIER College of Education on the theme “Youth for Mass Literacy” concluded on 8th March 2019. Prof. Vishav Raksha, Programme Coordinator NSS, University of Jammu was the chief guest for the valedictory function and also delivered a guest lecture on the occasion of International Women's Day. Fifty volunteers from the different departments of the college participated in the camp. Speaking on the occasion, Prof.Vishav Raksha, said that the gender sensitivity is about changing behaviour and instilling empathy into the views that we hold about our own and the other genders. We need to examine our personal attitudes and beliefs and question the 'stereotypes' in the contemporary society. Volunteers presented a very lively cultural programme on this occasion. A detailed report of the seven days NSS camp was presented by Ms.Kavita Chib. The programme was compered by Ms. Sheetal Sharma and Ms. Noreen Kosser. The welcome address was presented by Ms. Honika Mahajan and Vote of Thanks was presented by Ms.Deepi Jamwal.

International Day of Yoga

NSS volunteers enthusiastically participated in the International Day of Yoga. This year the theme of International Day of Yoga is ‘Yoga @Home and Yoga with family’ because of COVID-19 Pandemic. Students of PG and UG department made posters, watched live screening of Doordarshan’s national telecast of Yoga day to foster the sense of participating in the nationwide yoga movement. Students enthusiastically performed various Yogasans such as Kapalbharti, Pranayama, Dhyana, Samkalpa, and Meditation as per the common protocol issued by Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India.
