Creating Sustainable Environment Campaign at MIER College
The Environment Unit of MIER College of Education organized an environment campaign on the theme ‘Go Green’ by conducting two activities namely sowing of seasonal vegetable seeds and weeding of the garden at its campus. The activities were performed with a purpose to provide organic vegetables for the hostellers.
Mrs. Suman Gupta, In-charge of Environment Unit, oriented the students about organic green vegetables cultivation.
She said that ‘Go Green’ initiative is the need of the hour as we are facing the environmental degradation in all spheres. It is an initiative towards recycling of biodegradable wastes into composite manure and conservation of the soil from pollution, thus; protecting environment and sustaining natural resources for current and future generation.
More than eighty students from both UG and PG Department along with the faculty members actively participated in the activities. Students weeded the garden and planted a bed of lady finger using the compost from the compositing site of the institution. It was an exciting and joyful experience for students to contribute towards creating sustainable environment. The activity was done under the guidance of Mrs Rupa Gupta, Joint Director MIER.
