World Biodiversity Day

To celebrate World Biodiversity Day, the Environment Unit of MIER College of Education participated in a debate competition on the theme "Be the Part of the Plan of Biodiversity.” The competition was organized by the Biodiversity Council of J&K along with the National Biodiversity Authority. The event took place at the J&K Forest Research Institute in Janipur, Jammu, on May 22, 2024. The competition aimed to encourage students and participants to discuss the importance of biodiversity and explore ways everyone can contribute to its protection.

Students from different institutions shared their well-researched ideas on ways to save and improve biodiversity. The event successfully highlighted the critical role of educational institutions in environmental advocacy, leaving participants with a deeper understanding and commitment to biodiversity conservation.

The panel of judges included Dr. Harpreet Kaur, Divisional Forest Officer, Research Forest Division, Jammu, Sh. Rakesh Abrol, Divisional Forest Officer, Seed Development Division, Jammu, and Sh. Shashi Kant Seth, I/C Biodiversity Cell, Jammu. Out of 15 students from different institutions, Ms. Almita Katoch, a student of B.Ed. Semester II at MIER College of Education, bagged the 3rd prize in the competition.
Prof. Adit Gupta, Director and Principal MIER College, congratulated the winner and said that celebrating World Biodiversity Day is crucial for raising awareness about the vital importance of biodiversity and the urgent need to protect it. It highlights the interconnectedness of all life forms, emphasizing the essential services ecosystems provide, such as clean air, water, and fertile soil. The event was organized under the guidance of Mrs. Suman Gupta, Convener Environment Unit.
