World Clean Air Day

The Environment Unit of MIER College of Education, in collaboration with the Department of Ecology, Environment, and Remote Sensing, Government of J&K, organized a symposium to commemorate World Clean Air Day. The event, themed "Invest in Clean Air Now," aimed to raise awareness about the critical importance of air quality and its impact on public health and the environment.
Dr. Monika Bajaj, Head of the School of Social Sciences and Humanities, opened the symposium with a warm welcome. The keynote speaker, Dr.

Rashmi Sharma, Incharge Medical Officer at the Medical Mobile Unit, Directorate of Health Services, Jammu, delivered an enlightening lecture on the health risks of air pollution and practical steps individuals and communities can take to mitigate its effects.
Ms. Kirti Joshi Bhatt, Program Officer at EIACP J&K Hub, Department of Ecology, Environment, and Remote Sensing, also emphasized the urgency of investing in clean air initiatives and highlighted the government's ongoing efforts. Both Dr. Sharma and Ms. Bhatt served as the symposium's judges.
Over 15 students participated, with Ms. Aditi Mahajan of BA Honours Psychology (Semester IV) securing first place, Ms. Anjali Jain of B.Ed. (Semester IV) taking second place, and Ms. Hitakshi Bakshi of B.Ed. (Semester II) finishing third.
Prof. Adit Gupta, Director, and Principal of MIER College, congratulated the winners and reiterated the importance of raising awareness about clean air. He lauded the symposium's success in promoting the need for urgent action, reflecting the college's commitment to sustainable environmental practices.
Following the event, mementoes were presented to the guest speakers and judges by Dr. Adit Gupta. The program was skilfully hosted by Ms. Alisha Vaid, a B.Ed. Semester IV student, with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Mrs. Suman Gupta, In-charge of the Environment Unit. She played a pivotal role in organising the symposium, ensuring its smooth execution and success.
