Since its inception in 1981, the college has emerged as a trend setting educational institution utilizing both formal and non-formal techniques on the principles of excellence, quality, self-reliance, collaboration and service to society.
The College stands recognized by the Government of J&K and is permanently affiliated to the University of Jammu. It is recognized by the University Grants Commission under section 2(f) and 12B of the UGC Act. The college has also been accredited twice with 'A' grade and once with ‘A+’ Grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The college happens to be the first college of education to have been conferred with the Autonomous Status and College with Potential for Excellence Status by the UGC.
