    SPEAKER Dr. Ellora Puri

The School of Social Sciences and Humanities (SoSSH), MIER College organized a series of events to observe Constitution Day, which included a guest lecture, participation in a nationwide online quiz, and a documentary screening. Dr. Ellora Puri, Senior Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Jammu, served as the resource person. Students from the four-year undergraduate Honours and MA Political Science programs
actively participated in these activities. Dr. Monika Bajaj, Head of SoSSH, and other faculty members attended the programme.
Each year, on 26 th November, Constitution Day, also known as Samvidhan Divas, is commemorated to mark the day the Indian Constitution was adopted. On November 19, 2015, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment declared November 26 as "Constitution Day" to encourage citizens to uphold the values of the constitution.
More than a hundred students participated in different events. First, they completed an online quiz on the national webpage, recited the Indian Preamble, and were awarded with certificates. Second, a documentary on Samvidhan was screened, followed by an interactive session. In conclusion, a guest lecture on the theme Constitution is a Living Document was planned. Dr. Puri emphasized that the Indian Constitution is considered a living document because necessary revisions are made periodically. She discussed the constitution as a revolutionary initiative undertaken by freedom fighters, independent of ascriptive identities. Understanding that this constitutional transformation is a gradual and continuous process is crucial. Dr. Puri extensively deliberated on fundamental rights, guiding principles, and the responsibilities of Indian citizens. An engaging session helped the students clarify their doubts.
