Constitution Day

DATE Dec 10, 2024

To mark the commemoration of Constitution Day or Samvidhan Diwas, the School of Social Sciences and Humanities (SSSH) at MIER College of Education organized an engaging seminar on the theme, "Preamble is the Soul of Indian Constitution."
The seminar commenced with an introduction by Dr. Nandini Puri, Assistant Professor, who highlighted the importance of Samvidhan Diwas and its role in fostering an understanding of India's constitutional values. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation, with seven students from Political Science across undergraduate and postgraduate levels presenting their insights. A house full of attentive students and faculty from the discipline added to the spirited atmosphere.
The seminar explored the fundamental tenets of the Preamble, emphasizing its philosophical essence as envisioned by the Constituent Assembly. Discussions revolved around the significance of the Preamble in reflecting the democratic, secular, and inclusive ethos of the Indian Constitution. Participants delved into the historical importance of November 26, 1949, when the Constitution was adopted, and its enforcement on January 26, 1950, establishing the framework of India's democracy.
Dr. Monika Bajaj, Head of the School of Social Sciences and Humanities, concluded the Seminar by sharing valuable insights, reiterating the relevance of the Constitution as a living document requiring continual reflection and engagement.
Prof. Adit Gupta, Principal of MIER College of Education, lauded the efforts of SSSH in organizing the Seminar as part of the Constitution Day celebrations. He remarked, "The Indian Constitution is not just a legal framework but a testament to the vision of justice, equality, and liberty for all citizens. Understanding its essence, as reflected in the Preamble, is crucial for every individual."
The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Narender, Assistant Professor, acknowledging the participation and efforts of students, faculty, and organizers in making the event a success.
This initiative by the School of Social Sciences and Humanities reflected MIER College's commitment to promoting constitutional literacy and fostering critical discussions on the values that define the Indian democracy.
