The Placement Committee of MIER College of Education successfully organized an orientation session titled “Career in Higher Education with Special Focus on NET/JRF Examination” under the “College to Career Programme”. The distinguished resource person for the session was Dr. Vivek Sharma, Associate Professor, Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu. The event was attended in blended mode by more than 80 students of School of Education Semester IV and M.A. Political Science Semester IV of SSSH. Prof. Nishta Rana, Head SoE; Dr. Monika Bajaj, Head SSSH along with faculty members from both schools attended the orientation.
The objective of the session was to provide valuable insights and guidance to students regarding NET/SET examinations, equipping them with an understanding of the exam pattern, syllabus, preparation strategies, and significant dates related to the exams.
The programme commenced with a formal welcome address by Mrs. Jyoti Sharma, Convener of the Placement Committee. She also introduced the resource person and said that Dr. Sharma, who holds a Ph.D., MBA (NET/JRF), has over 19 years of experience in teaching and research. He has been actively involved in mentoring marginalized and socio-economically disadvantaged groups as the Coordinator of the Coaching Unit for Competitive Examinations for SC/ST/OBC/Minorities.
During his address, Dr. Sharma underscored the significance of NET/SET examinations in higher education and the recognition of UGC standards and norms. His session covered essential aspects such as eligibility criteria, examination scheme, and the latest UGC regulations for 2025. He also discussed reservations, exam patterns, syllabus, application procedures, and fee structures for NET/SET/JRF examinations. Furthermore, he elaborated on various career opportunities available in higher education, highlighting how qualifying for NET/JRF can enhance academic and research prospects.
Prof. Mool Raj, Controller Examinations and officiating Principal, MIER College, lauded the Placement Committee for organizing such an insightful session. He appreciated the team’s commitment to guiding students in their career preparation and emphasized the impact of such initiatives on student success and academic excellence. Momento was presented to the resource person as a token of respect and gratitude.
The programme concluded with an engaging Q&A session, where students actively interacted with the resource person to clarify their doubts and gain deeper insights. A formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Sahil Bhagat, Member of the Placement Committee, expressing gratitude to the speaker and attendees for their participation.
