One Day NSS Special Camp

MIER College of Education organized a One-day session on Human Rights through the NSS Special Camp under the banner of the office of the Program Coordinator NSS, University of Jammu in collaboration with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRM). Dr. Satinder Kumar, Programme Coordinator NSS, University of Jammu was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Dr. Renu Gupta, Chairperson MIER, Dr. Adit Gupta, Director MIER, Mrs. Rupa Gupta, Joint Director MIER, HODs of PG & UG Depts. Dr. MoolRaj Sharma and Dr. Rohnika Sharma along with the faculty members of the MIER College of Education and other participating colleges attended the program.
Dr Adit Gupta, Director and Principal MIER College of Education formally welcomed the gathering. He said that NSS volunteers are vibrant and active ambassadors of change as they pass on the values of selfless service with the motto of “Not Me But You.”
More than 50 NSS volunteers from various colleges of Jammu attended the camp. In the beginning of the program a Human Rights Pledge was conducted by Ms. Anjeshree Sinha, an NSS volunteer. There were two sessions on Human Rights. The resource person of the first session was Mr. Deshraj, Youth Assistant, Regional Directorate, NSS. Speaking on the topic he elaborated that Human Rights are the protection and freedom that is provided to individuals to live their life with dignity and respect. These rights uphold the values that are rooted in peace and inclusion. Under the universal call to "Stand Up for Human rights” the youth play an important role. The resource person of the second session was Dr. Bindu Sangra, Assistant Professor, School of Law, University of Jammu. She said that human rights are moral norms that describe certain standards of human behaviour and are regularly protected in national and international law. Our Constitution not only guarantees these rights but also takes action against their misuse and violation and highlighted the process to file a complaint on their violation.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Satinder Kumar said that Human Rights can be defined as the right to liberty, equality, respect, and to live for any human being and most of these Human Rights are Fundamental Rights too. He added that the NSS programme aims to instill the idea of social welfare in NSS student members, to provide service to society without any prejudice and to make people aware of these rights.
A declamation contest was also held on the theme ‘Awareness on the Human Rights’. There were eight participants, out of which the first prize of Rs 3500 was bagged by Ms. Anjshree Sinha, a student of MIER College of Education, Mr. Ashit Toppo from MIER College of Education bagged second prize of Rs 2400 and the third prize of Rs 1400 was given to Ms. Dhara Koul from Government College of Women, Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu. Dr. Reeta Dwivedi, NSS Program Officer extended a formal Vote of Thanks and Ms. Palak Srivastva, a student of B.Ed. effectively conducted the programme.
