Guest Lecture on Hypothesis: Forms and Testing

SPEAKER Prof. Kaushal Kishore

The Center for Educational Research (CER) at MIER College of Education organized a guest lecture on the theme “Hypothesis: Forms and Testing”. The resource person was Prof. Kaushal Kishore, Dean and Head School of Education, Central University of South Bihar, Gaya. Prof. Adit Gupta, Principal MIER College of Education presided over the lecture. The faculty along with the students of the PG Department attended the lecture.
Dr. Adit Gupta extended a warm welcome to the resource person and introduced him as an expert in the field of Educational Research, Educational Statistics and Emerging Educational Trends. He further said that Prof. Kishore is a distinguished researcher and a teacher educator, who has published his work and presented both at national and international conferences. Additionally, he has authored many books and delivered more than 35 invited lectures including video lectures for MOOCs. He has held many positions at different levels and has many accolades to his credit.
In his lecture, Dr. Kishore comprehensively explained the need and framing of research questions, development of hypothesis, difference between the Null hypothesis and research hypothesis and hypothesis testing. Furthermore, he emphasized that looking for tentative answers or making an educational guess is framing of the research hypothesis. Prof. Kishore provided ample examples explaining the characteristics of the research hypothesis; its two types namely directional and non-directional hypothesis. Through examples he made the distinction between research, Null and alternative hypothesis in research. He also deliberated on hypothesis testing errors namely Type I and Type II and said depending on the nature and consequences of the research either of them could be dangerous. This was followed by an active interaction session where the faculty members and students clarified their doubts and queries.
Dr. Adit Gupta in his presidential remarks thanked the resource person for comprehensively explaining the development of the hypothesis, its forms and testing. Further adding, he said that such interactive platforms provide an opportunity to faculty and scholars to clarify their doubts and further their knowledge, which is essential for conducting quality research in education.
Dr. Nishta Rana, Dypt. Head PG Department and Head, CER presented a formal Vote of Thanks to the distinguished speaker and the audience.
