To celebrate World Mental Health Day, the School of Social Sciences and Humanities (SSSH), organized a guest lecture cum interactive session on the topic “Mental Health is a Universal Human Right.". The resource person was Dr Rajinder Kumar,
Consultant Psychiatrist, Sankalp Manorog Clinic Jammu. Dr Monika Bajaj, HoD SSSH along with the faculty and students of B.A. Honours Psychology and Diploma in Guidance and
Counselling programme attended the lecture.
Dr. Kumar emphasized that mental health is an integral part of an individual & overall health and quality of life, and it is recognized as a fundamental aspect of human rights by various international
organizations and agreements. He discussed the bio-psychosocial model and talked at length about nine categories of psychological disorders, such as psychosis, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, etc. He also explained symptoms and treatment plans.
This was followed by a Q & A session where students clarified their doubts.
