Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Groups Cell (SEDG)

INTRODUCTION

The SEDG Cell has been established to ensure that students belonging to Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Groups (SEDGs) have a safe and secure environment and equitable access to quality education in higher educational institutions (HEIS), as specified in the GOI’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Objectives
• Safeguard the constitutional rights of SEDG students.
• Foster an inclusive, safe, and secure environment within Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) for SEDG students.
• Provide socio-emotional and academic support through structured counselling and mentoring programs.
• Oversee the effective implementation and monitoring of orientation and bridge courses designed to benefit SEDG students.
• Ensure the execution of HEI initiatives aimed at enhancing the participation of SEDG students in academic activities.
• Implement government policies, including reservation policies, schemes, programs, and facilities, to support SEDG students.
• Facilitate the development of outreach programs by HEIs to enable SEDG students to access various educational and academic opportunities.
• Enforce preventive measures and legal safeguards against discrimination and atrocities, ensuring the protection of SEDG students.
• Disseminate, promote, and oversee the implementation of UGC and government guidelines concerning SEDG students.
• Address and resolve grievances and complaints of SEDG students within 15 days through the Grievance Redressal Committee (GRC), ensuring their safety, privacy, and dignity.
The Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Groups (SEDGs) Cell proactively implements initiatives to promote inclusivity, support, and equal opportunities for students from underprivileged backgrounds.
